All Policies for a Healthy Europe launches its Revisited Narrative for 2024-2029

New vision embraces a holistic approach, placing citizens' health and well-being at the forefront to foster a more productive, competitive, and sustainable European Union.

Brussels, 7 October 2024 – All Policies for a Healthy Europe (AP4HE), an intersectoral initiative advocating for putting citizens’ health and well-being at the heart of European policymaking, launched its Revisited Narrative for 2024-2029 today.

The Revisited Narrative for 2024-2029 introduces the coalition’s renewed vision, based on the new Commission’s political guidelines, that moves beyond traditional economic metrics such as GDP growth, productivity, and competitiveness. Instead, it champions a holistic, citizen-centered approach focused on fostering sustainable well-being through a 'just transition.' The strategy also places equal emphasis on high environmental and health standards to secure a thriving future for Europe’s people and its economy.

The updated narrative highlights two key drivers of AP4HE’s future agenda: enhancing the quality of life for EU citizens and strengthening the economic resilience of the Union.

• Economic drivers focus on boosting productivity of the European workforce through innovation, digitalization, and skills development, in turn enhancing the EU’s competitiveness via sustainable trade, infrastructure improvements, and fostering dynamic innovation ecosystems.
• Drivers of the quality of life prioritise climate change adaptation with green technologies and resource management at the forefront, alongside building resilient health systems that promote equitable healthcare access, preventive care, and environmental sustainability.

“This is the time to push for a new building bloc of the European Health Union. We need to unite our forces to achieve concrete results – because the EU’s prosperity depends on healthy nations!”, says MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis, former chair of AP4HE.
